Names
Names
Names here almost always have a meaning. Its nice because I've managed to learn a lot of words by meeting people. Ms. Tigist (Patience), Ms. Abeba (flower), Ms. Yemisrach (congratulations?), Helina (God's conscience), etc.etc.
People here take their father's name as their last name. So it works like this... my father is Gabriel, so my name would be Tricia Gabriel, my sisters Angela Gabriel and Jessica Gabriel. My grandfather was named August, so my father's name would be Gabriel August... and so on.
Just to give you an idea of the language and some of the names here are a few...
Women: Anchinesh, Betty-luh-hem, Bersabay, Kalkidan, Yordanos
Men:Yineena, Mussay, Adam, Nobel, Bereket, Biruk... oh and there are about a thousand Teddy's (Teodros)
